Texus USA — Uganda’s ambition to become a global coffee powerhouse has received a major boost after Inspire Coffee, produced at the Africa Coffee Park in Ntungamo District, was showcased and consumed by thousands of football fans during the ongoing FIFA World Cup, marking a significant milestone for the country’s value-added coffee industry.

The development signals Uganda’s growing presence on the international stage, with locally processed coffee now reaching one of the world’s biggest sporting events instead of being exported mainly as raw beans.

Produced by Inspire Africa Group at the state-of-the-art Africa Coffee Park in Rwashamaire, Ntungamo, Inspire Coffee is part of Uganda’s broader strategy to increase earnings through value addition. The coffee park, commissioned some years back is the first facility of its kind in East and Central Africa, producing premium instant and soluble coffee for global markets.

Industry players say the appearance of Inspire Coffee at the World Cup provides an opportunity to market Uganda’s rich coffee heritage to millions of consumers from across the globe.

“Having Ugandan coffee served at a global event such as the FIFA World Cup demonstrates that our products can compete with the best in the world. It is a proud moment for Uganda’s coffee farmers and processors,” an industry official said.

Uganda is Africa’s leading coffee exporter, but for decades most of its coffee has been exported in raw form, limiting the country’s earnings. Government and private investors have increasingly focused on processing coffee locally to create jobs, increase export revenues and improve farmers’ incomes.

The Africa Coffee Park in Ntungamo was established to transform Uganda into a leading exporter of finished coffee products, including instant coffee, ready-to-drink beverages and other value-added products destined for international markets.

Coffee sector analysts believe global exposure through high-profile events such as the World Cup could strengthen Uganda’s coffee brand, attract new buyers and position the country as a producer of premium finished coffee rather than simply a supplier of raw beans.

With global demand for quality coffee continuing to grow, stakeholders say Inspire Coffee’s international debut represents another step towards achieving Uganda’s vision of becoming one of the world’s leading coffee-producing and value-adding nations.
