Jinja, Uganda — September 24, 2026: Kakira Rugby Club has announced a new partnership with the Irish Society of Uganda, which will provide financial support towards the club’s Rugby Academy, age-grade programmes and grassroots rugby development in and around Kakira.
The support will strengthen several of the club’s youth development initiatives, including its Weekend Rugby Programme, school-based rugby activities and rugby camps.
According to Kakira Rugby Club, the programmes currently engage learners from eight partner primary schools and two secondary schools, while three newly established rugby camps within Kakira are also benefiting from the club’s development efforts.
The partnership is expected to give more children and young people opportunities to learn and participate in rugby in a safe, inclusive and positive environment.
Beyond developing rugby skills, Kakira says its academy programmes use sport to promote discipline, teamwork, confidence, leadership, respect and positive use of time among young people.
The club has welcomed the contribution from the Irish Society of Uganda, describing it as an investment in the potential of children and young people in Kakira.
Kakira Rugby Club says the funding will be put to use across its academy, partner schools, rugby camps and the wider Kakira community.
“Together, we are investing in the next generation,” the club said, reaffirming its commitment to using rugby as a tool for youth development and community transformation.
The partnership highlights the growing role of grassroots sport in creating opportunities for young people, with Kakira Rugby Club seeking to build a stronger pipeline of young players while using the game to nurture life skills both on and off the pitch.
