Hon. Tukundane Casbart has joined a Ugandan delegation led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja in Rome, Italy, for the first Uganda-Italy Business and Investment Forum 2026, aimed at attracting foreign investment and strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
Held under the theme “Unlocking Shared Prosperity,” the forum brings together investors, entrepreneurs and technology providers to explore opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, energy, ICT, infrastructure and healthcare.
The engagements align with Uganda’s Tenfold Growth Strategy, which seeks to grow the economy towards $500 billion by 2040 through industrialisation, value addition and job creation.
Meanwhile, Nabbanja held talks with Dr G. Paolo Mistruzzi Freisinger of the Robert Schuman Foundation Trust, who expressed interest in supporting Uganda’s waste management sector through a proposed €375 million initiative.
The proposal would support the establishment of a waste processing plant to be managed by the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), alongside mobile processing equipment expected to facilitate electricity generation from waste.
The proposed funding, equivalent to approximately Shs101 billion, is intended to help address Uganda’s growing garbage management challenges, although the financing and implementation arrangements remain subject to confirmation.
The visit underscores Uganda’s efforts to attract international partnerships that can stimulate investment, create employment and accelerate economic transformation.
