Hajjat Amina Mukalazi Hosts Former Buganda Katikkiro John Baptist Walusimbi in Courtesy Visit

Hajjat Amina Mukalazi, the Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development in charge of Privatisation and Investment, on Wednesday hosted former Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro, Owek. Eng. John Baptist Walusimbi, during a courtesy visit at her office, where the two leaders held discussions centred on leadership, national development and meaningful engagement for Uganda’s progress.

Walusimbi, who served as Katikkiro of the Buganda Kingdom from 2008 to 2013, was accompanied by members of his team during the visit.

Speaking after the meeting, Hajjat Mukalazi described the visit as an honour and praised the former Katikkiro for his exemplary leadership and continued contribution to national discourse.

It was a privilege to engage with such a distinguished leader whose wisdom, experience and counsel continue to inspire,” she said.

Mukalazi noted that leaders who have served with dedication remain invaluable assets to the country’s development agenda, adding that their experience can help guide current and future generations of public servants and policymakers.

She thanked Walusimbi for taking time to visit and for his unwavering support, reaffirming her commitment to fostering productive engagements that contribute to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

“I deeply appreciate his visit and support, and I remain committed to fostering meaningful engagements that contribute to our nation’s progress,” she added.

The Minister also paid tribute to the Buganda Kingdom and expressed respect for His Majesty the Kabaka, concluding her remarks with the traditional salutation, “Awangale Ssaabasajja Kabaka.”

The courtesy visit reflects the growing importance of collaboration and dialogue between seasoned national leaders and government officials in advancing Uganda’s development aspirations.

Walusimbi is widely respected for his leadership during his tenure as Katikkiro, where he championed initiatives aimed at strengthening institutional governance and promoting socio-economic development within the Buganda Kingdom.

The meeting underscored the value of drawing upon the experience and wisdom of veteran leaders in shaping conversations that support national unity, development and inclusive progress.
