KAMPALA – Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing road construction projects in Kampala, urging political and technical leaders across the country to strengthen supervision of public infrastructure works to ensure Ugandans receive value for money.
The Prime Minister made the remarks on Friday during an inspection of major road construction projects in Kampala, accompanied by the Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, the Minister of State for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hon. Kyofatogabye Kabuye, and technical officers.
The inspection comes at a time when government is investing heavily in modernising Kampala’s infrastructure to improve mobility, ease traffic congestion and enhance the city’s readiness for major continental events, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament scheduled for next year.
Speaking after touring the projects, Nabbanja commended the political leadership and technical teams of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) for their commitment to ensuring that construction works are progressing according to plan.
“I am impressed by the progress of the works on the major roads in the city, and I thank the political leadership of KCCA and the technical staff for supervising the construction projects,” she said.
The Prime Minister’s visit provided an opportunity to assess the quality and pace of ongoing infrastructure developments that are expected to significantly improve Kampala’s road network and economic productivity.
During the tour, the delegation also visited Kadiba Stadium to inspect the ongoing construction works as Uganda intensifies preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The stadium is among the key sports facilities earmarked for upgrades ahead of the prestigious continental football tournament.
Government has in recent months accelerated investments in sports, aviation, health and hospitality infrastructure as part of its broader preparations for AFCON, which is expected to attract thousands of visitors and provide significant economic opportunities for Ugandans.
Nabbanja emphasised that timely completion and quality execution of public projects remain critical to the country’s development agenda. She urged leaders at both political and technical levels to remain vigilant in supervising contractors to ensure public funds are utilised effectively.
“I encourage the political and technical leaders to effectively supervise all construction works across the country and ensure that contractors do a good job so that our country gets value for money from these projects,” she noted.
Her remarks underscore government’s renewed focus on accountability in public infrastructure projects amid increasing investments in roads and sports facilities across the country.
The Kampala road projects are expected to improve transportation within the capital city, reduce travel time for commuters and support economic activities, while the ongoing works at Kadiba Stadium form part of Uganda’s ambitious preparations to successfully host AFCON 2027.
With less than a year to the continental tournament, government officials say effective supervision and timely delivery of infrastructure projects will be crucial in showcasing Uganda’s readiness to host one of Africa’s biggest sporting events.
The Prime Minister’s inspection sends a strong message on government’s commitment not only to delivering infrastructure but also to ensuring quality workmanship and prudent use of taxpayers’ money.
