President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has celebrated the graduation of his grandson, Ruhamya, and Bakyira from the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.

President Museveni congratulated the two young officers following their successful completion of military training at the renowned British military academy, describing the achievement as an important milestone in their lives.

The graduation marks another link between the Museveni family and Sandhurst, an institution that has trained military officers from across the world. Uganda has previously sent several officers to the academy, including senior officers who have gone on to hold key positions in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

The President, who is also Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, has on several occasions emphasised the importance of discipline, professional military training and leadership in building effective armed forces.

Sandhurst is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading institutions for the training of military officers, preparing cadets for command responsibilities, leadership and service.

The graduation of Ruhamya and Bakyira comes at a time when Uganda continues to strengthen professional training within the UPDF, with the military recently promoting and confirming the ranks of hundreds of officers.

Museveni’s celebration of his grandson’s achievement also highlights the family’s long association with military service. His son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is the Chief of Defence Forces of the UPDF and has himself undergone military training in Uganda and abroad.

The President’s message to the young graduates is expected to reinforce the values associated with military service, including discipline, patriotism, commitment and responsibility.

For Ruhamya and Bakyira, the Sandhurst graduation represents the beginning of a new chapter as they move from formal military training into professional service.

Their achievement has also attracted attention because of the historical significance of Sandhurst in Uganda’s military establishment, with a number of Ugandan officers having trained at the academy before returning home to take up senior responsibilities.

As the two graduates begin their military careers, their training at one of the world’s most respected military academies is expected to provide them with a strong foundation in leadership and command.
